Attendees participate in two weeks of lectures and hands-on training in engineering and physical science laboratory techniques by experts in the field. Topics include cancer nanotechnology, cell mechanics, molecular biology, micro fabrication, and NanoBio devices.

BIONANOTECHNOLOGY SUMMER INSTITUTE TRAINS NEXT-GENERATION OF RESEARCHERS

Twenty-six students, postdocs, and junior faculty from science and engineering disciplines from across the campus, the country, and overseas participated in the 2015 University of Illinois BioNanotechnology Summer Institute from July 27-August 7 at the Micro + Nanotechnology Lab, learning about cancer nanotechnology, cell mechanics, molecular biology, micro & nano fabrication techniques, and microfluidics. Who should apply?

The intended audience is advanced undergraduates, graduate students, post-docs, and faculty members from engineering, physical sciences, and biological sciences who are interested in state-of-the-art interdisciplinary research at the intersection of engineering and biology

Registration fee is $1,500 per participant, which includes breakfast and lunch each weekday and dormitory housing from the evening of July 26 through the morning of August 8. NOTE: Limited financial assistance may be available toward the registration fee. If you wish to attend and require financial help, please indicate your request on the application form.

INSTITUTE FOCUS:
Cancer Nanotechnology and Cell Mechanics

OBJECTIVES

The overall objective is to enhance the ability to address challenges in Cancer Nanotechnology and Mechanobiology. The 2015 Summer Institute offers expertise from interdisciplinary faculty in biology, engineering, materials science, and nanotechnology through a combination of lectures and hands-on lab experiences.

Specific objectives include:

  • Train next-generation researchers in nanotechnology, applied to both engineering and biology through lectures and hands-on experiences
  • Foster multi-lateral and multi-disciplinary collaboration and interaction
